Transportation Incentive Program

The Transportation Incentive Program (TIP) applies to Department of Navy (DON) employees to help reduce their daily contribution to traffic congestion and air pollution, as well as expand their commuting alternatives. The new maximum benefit amount of $245 will take effect on 1 April 2013 for Department of Navy Transportation Incentive Program participants. Under this program, you must commute to work by bus, *ferry, or **vanpool.

TIP is designed to pay for mass transit costs incurred by personnel in their local commute from residence to permanent duty station. Participants must accurately claim an amount that reflects their actual commuting cost—failure to do so will result in fraudulent certification on the application and is subject to criminal prosecution. This program is a benefit, not an entitlement; thus, there is no retroactive reimbursement for the program back to its inception.

All new participants must submit an application. Your Point of Contact (POC) at your work site can provide you with the appropriate application forms or you may visit the FMO website and download such forms. All completed forms must be TYPED (not hand-written) and should be submitted to your POC for processing.

*The Kitsap Transit Foot Ferry or WSF (you must either walk on or be a passenger in an eligible vanpool).
**Vanpools may either be public or private.  Private vanpools must be registered with Kitsap Transit.
