Good News! If you normally walk, bike, carpool, vanpool, or take a bus to work, you no longer have to worry about getting home in case of an emergency. Under Kitsap Transit's Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) Program, you can get a free ride home by an authorized transportation provider, and Kitsap Transit will pay the fare!

Who's eligible?

To be eligible for a free Guaranteed Ride Home when an emergency strikes:

Your employer must be a participant in Kitsap Transit's Guaranteed Ride Home Program, and

You must be a Smart Commuter. A Smart Commuter walks, bicycles, carpools, vanpools, or takes the bus to work at least three times a week, and

You must be pre-registered with your Employee Transportation Coordinator (ETC). If you don't know who your ETC is, go to the "List of Employee Transportation Coordinators" or call Kitsap Transit at 1-800-501-RIDE.

When can a Guaranteed Ride Home be used?

You may get a Guaranteed Ride Home if:

You or a family member becomes ill, or

You unexpectedly need to work past your normal quitting time at the request of your supervisor, or

You missed your regular ride due to an unexpected change in your work schedule, or

You have another, similar, emergency and the ride is approved by your ETC.

The Guaranteed Ride Home Program is designed for EMERGENCIES. A Guaranteed Ride Home may not be used for personal errands, prescheduled overtime or appointments, pre-planned medical appointments, business-related travel, working late with at least one day's prior notice, working late without a supervisor's request, trips to the hospital in place of ambulance service (for injury or illness), trips to a doctors or hospital resulting from an on-the-job injury, or non-emergency side trips. A Guaranteed Ride Home is not available in the event of a major area disaster.

What do I do when I have an emergency and need a ride?

When you have an emergency and need a Guaranteed Ride Home, you simply contact your ETC. Your ETC will call Kitsap Transit's authorized transportation provider. The transportation provider will complete a Kitsap Transit Guaranteed Ride Home voucher and take you home. It's that simple.

Kitsap Transit will pay for the entire cost of a Guaranteed Ride Home trip that originates in Kitsap County, including the portion of the trip into Jefferson, Mason, or Pierce County. Kitsap Transit will not pay for the cost of a ferry ride or any portion of a trip into King County. Tips are discretionary and will not be paid by Kitsap Transit.
