VANPOOL DRIVER ELIGIBILITY/RETENTION CRITERIA
Vanpool drivers must have a valid, unrestricted (prescription lenses acceptable), non-probationary driver’s license and five years of verifiable licensed driving experience.
Below is an eligibility and retention criterion utilizing a point system. The total points are compared with an acceptable risk of three or below. Each citation/accident appearing within a three-year period is counted except as noted below. Citation/violation activity should be verified to the best of the Vanpool Coordinator’s ability.
Vanpool drivers will not be eligible or will no longer be eligible to drive a vanpool van if the following appears on their driving record:
Important Interpretations:
Points Related to Accidents in the Van or Personal Vehicle
1 |
Accident (not at fault)* |
2 |
Accident (at fault)* |
Not at fault means the Vanpool Coordinator concludes the most responsible party in the accident was NOT the Vanpool driver or Vanpool driver applicant. At fault means the Vanpool Coordinator concludes the most responsible party in the accident WAS the vanpool driver or vanpool driver applicant. Accidents involving animals, wild or domestic, may be deemed as NO fault without points. Also, no additional points are added for the accident being in the transit agency vehicle.
