Surplus Vehicles
When Kitsap Transit no longer has a use for a vehicle, the agency typically will surplus the vehicle and send it to auction under its Asset Surplus Policy.
Kitsap Transit has established a new process for non-profits in Kitsap County that offers them the opportunity to buy surplus vehicles before they are sent to auction. Kitsap Transit will collect information during this process that is subject to disclosure under state public records laws and auditing.
Instructions to Interested Non-ProfitsStep 1. Pre-Qualify: Register with Kitsap Transit to get pre-qualified to receive notifications about the agency’s surplus vehicles and have the opportunity to submit bids for them. Step 2. Vehicle Notification: Kitsap Transit will post information about surplus vehicles for sale through the link below and notify pre-qualified non-profits via e-mail of the date, time and place for viewing them (“View Date”). The agency will also set a “Release Deadline” after the viewing date for pre-qualified buyers to submit to its Finance Department a valid cashier’s check. To be valid, the cashier’s check must be unconditionally payable to Kitsap Transit in an amount equal to the fixed price of the vehicle and issued by an FDIC-insured bank in Washington state. Step 3. View Date: Interested pre-qualified buyers may inspect the vehicles and ask questions at designated times provided by Kitsap Transit, but will not be allowed to “test drive” or negotiate prices. Vehicles are sold as-is without warranty for a fixed market price. Step 4. Sale and Release of Vehicle: The Finance Department will sell the vehicle to the first pre-qualified buyer who submits a valid cashier’s check to Kitsap Transit up to the Release Deadline. Successful buyers will make arrangements to pick up the vehicle(s) from the Maintenance Department upon approval by the Finance Director. If no pre-qualified buyers have submitted a valid cashier’s check by the Release Deadline, Kitsap Transit will send the vehicle to a local auction. |
