Fare Changes
Cross-Sound Passenger-Only Ferry
Starting on Oct. 1, 2025, Kitsap Fast Ferries will no longer accept transfers or PugetPass, aligning its policy with Washington State Ferries. This change is being made in response to the growing urgency to preserve the long-term sustainability of the Marine Services fleet and facilities. In addition, westbound fares from Seattle to Kitsap on the Bremerton, Kingston and Southworth fast-ferry routes will increase by $1, from $12 to $13. Frequently Asked Questions
We understand changes to fare policy can be confusing and have different impacts on those who travel on our services. Please reach out to our Customer Service team if you have questions about these changes. We will be posting FAQs here.
Q: Will Kitsap Transit accept PugetPass on its services on or after October 1, 2025?
A: A PugetPass loaded on an ORCA card is a monthly pass valid for a specific dollar value when paying fare to ride transit in the Puget Sound region. Effective October 1, 2025, PugetPass will no longer be accepted to pay fare on Kitsap Fast Ferries, but it will continue to be valid for fare payment to ride Kitsap Transit's Routed buses and Local Foot Ferry. Employers who provide a PugetPass to employees may need to increase the amount of E-purse loaded onto an employee's ORCA card because E-purse will continue to be valid fare payment on Kitsap Fast Ferries.
Q: Why is Kitsap Transit not accepting PugetPass on its Fast Ferries?
A: Trips paid for with PugetPass do not result in Kitsap Transit receiving 100 percent of the cash-equivalent fare for that trip, and the change in policy is intended to capture 100 percent of the cash-equivalent fare, similar to Washington State Ferries' fare policy. This is also why Kitsap Fast Ferries will not accept or provide transfers effective October 1, 2025.
Q: I ride a bus to and from the Fast Ferry. How does this change affect me?
A: The change does not affect those who pay with cash. The change affects those who pay with ORCA E-purse or PugetPass. Effective October 1, 2025, if you pay for a bus ride to reach the ferry terminal, you will pay the cash-equivalent fare with E-purse to ride the Fast Ferry rather than paying only the fare differential. After you get off the Fast Ferry and pay for a bus ride within two hours, ORCA E-purse or PugetPass users will receive transfer credit from the previous bus fare paid, but not from the Fast Ferry fare paid.
